Privacy Policy

Short version: StudyNest stores your study data locally on your device. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties. AI features only process text you explicitly provide.

1. What data we collect

StudyNest collects and stores the following data to provide its features:

• Study data — tasks, highlights, flashcards, notes, and study progress
• Usage data — focus sessions, streaks, XP points, and study activity within the extension
• Preferences — theme, language, and blocked websites
• Calendar data — tasks and deadlines you create
• Account data (optional) — email address and name if you create an account

2. Where your data is stored

By default, StudyNest stores all data locally on your device using Chrome's storage API (chrome.storage.local). This means your data does not leave your device unless required for a feature you use.

If you create an account, your data may be securely stored on our servers to enable syncing across devices. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

3. AI features and data processing

StudyNest includes AI-powered features. When you use them:

• Only the text you type or explicitly select is sent
• The request is sent to our backend, then forwarded to an AI provider
• We do not store AI conversations permanently
• We do not use your data to train AI models

AI data is processed only to generate responses requested by you.

4. What we do NOT do

• We do not sell your data
• We do not share your data with advertisers
• We do not track your browsing history
• We do not access page content unless you explicitly interact (e.g. selecting text)
• We do not display ads

5. Permissions and access

StudyNest uses Chrome permissions only to provide its core features:

• storage — save tasks, highlights, and settings locally
• tabs — detect the current tab for focus/blocking features
• activeTab — access page content only when you interact
• scripting — enable highlighting functionality
• notifications — send reminders and timer alerts
• host permissions — enable highlighting and blocking on selected websites

Important: StudyNest only accesses the currently active tab when required for user-triggered actions. It does not monitor, collect, or store your full browsing history.

6. Payments and premium features

StudyNest may offer premium features. Payments are processed securely by third-party providers (e.g., Stripe). We do not collect or store your payment details.

7. How to delete your data

• Remove the extension from Chrome to delete all local data
• Use the "Reset Data" option inside the extension
• Contact us to delete your account (if created)

8. Children's privacy

StudyNest is intended for students. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without parental consent.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as features evolve. Continued use of StudyNest means you accept the updated policy.
